The Aim

To give swimmers in the Jellie Park Recreation & Sport Centre Swimming Programme who are new to competitive swimming the opportunity to gain a positive racing experience by participating in the JASI Splash Nights.

Swimmers are not disqualified at Splash Nights, if there is a problem in the way that they swim a race this will be explained to the swimmer so they learn form the experience and do not make the same error in the future. Older swimmers who know better will incur time penalties.

Splash Nights also give the opportunity to see how the swimmers are performing their strokes and skills away from the general training and assessment situation. In the last few years the performance standard has increased greatly which is reflected in the recent very good performances of the Jasi Swim Team.

All races are seeded on the swimmers abilities, swimmers are encouraged to focus on their own performance, being the best swimmer in their lane!

The final results are not known until the swim of the event so swimmers have to do the best performance they can to get one of the top finishing places. There are prizes for swimmers who make the top three places in their age group for boys and girls in each event on the night.

We hope that all swimmers enjoy the Splash Night experience.

On the night

The Splash Night begins with a 15 - 20 minute warm up time. At this time swimmers can enter the pool and warm up, practicing the strokes, turns and dives for the events that evening.

When the pool will be cleared.

Swimmers participating in the first event should go to the marshalling area (by the teaching pool) where they will be called to sit on a bench in heat and lane order. At this time you will be given a time card, the swimmer should take and give to the timekeeper in their lane when they go up for their race.

As the swimmers race approaches they will be escorted to the starting end of the pool. At the starting end of the pool, give your time card to the timekeeper and then stand behind the starting block. Follow the commands of the starter to begin your race.
